Kim Faclier is Property’s Most Influential Woman
Property professional Kim Faclier has won the Property category at South Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government (MiW) Awards announced recently by CEO Magazine at a gala event in Johannesburg. The annual awards (2012 being its 11th year) recognise the inspirational women achievers in business and government across 28 industry sectors who are working for the benefit of South Africa and its future generations.
Says Yvonne Finch, founder of Yvonne Finch Consulting and the chair of the MiW judging panel: “Once again, the calibre of the candidates selected from over 1 100 entries, was exceptional. The judging procedure is extremely stringent and we are confident that the winners are a true reflection of the talent pool of influential women in South Africa.”
Faclier has been the MD of GoIndustry DoveBid SA’s property division since starting the division in mid-2011, but in all boasts 20 years experience across the commercial, residential and industrial property arenas. A multiple award-winner recognised by institutes such as Sanlam and Old Mutual, she received the prestigious Women’s Property Network (WPN) Five Star Award in 2010, an award recognising exceptional women in the commercial property sector across South Africa. Today, she leads the WPN’s
mentorship programme.
Her experience and reputation in property recently saw her invited to participate as a judge at the International Auctioneer Championships (IAC) held in Spokane, USA.
An annual event organised by the National Auctioneers’ Association, Faclier was the only judge to be selected outside of the USA. The IAC is the world’s premier showcase of auction talent among the “best of the best” within the international auction industry.
Says Faclier: “I have attended this event as a participant for a number of years and am always in awe of the ‘giants’ in the international auction industry that attend. To be invited to be a judge this year was a humbling experience but also one that acknowledges my own contribution to the property world and that’s extremely gratifying.”
Faclier has also been invited to be one of the speakers at this year’s Annual Rode Conference. A highlight on the local calendar for all those involved in the property industry – from investors and brokers across all property fields to financial and legal institutions – Faclier is on the agenda to speak at the Cape Town leg of the conference to be held on 21 August at the Spier Estate in Stellenbosch. Faclier’s topic will be “The future of property auctions – live and online” and will look in depth at the business of conducting property auctions in cyberspace.
Explains Faclier: “GoIndustry DoveBid is the world’s largest specialist plant and machinery valuation and disposal company, with most of its business conducted via online auctions via a platform that it has developed and refined for more than a decade. Our South African property division is the first in the group to take immoveable property online using the GoIndustry DoveBid platform, but with business across the globe moving increasingly online, property auctions conducted in real time are the way this type of business will be done in the future. I’ll be talking about the power of the internet for this market and where the property industry currently stands in this cyber-space.”
