On Wednesday, 13 April 2011 the KZN Regional Chapter and BoE hosted a wonderful breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express on Umhlanga Ridge.
A great time was had by all and apart from the opportunity to network, guests were treated to three most enlightening presentations by:
Richard Humphrey of the Aurecon Group - Richard gave a fascinating broad overview of sustainable property development drawing attention to the need to design buildings in such a way as to save on electricity and water usage, with specific reference to Green Buildings and Green Building design.
Jenny Botes of GSA - Jenny spoke on the need to use the correct glass when designing buildings e.g. she highlighted the on-going savings that will be achieved in heating and cooling buildings if double glazing was used instead of normal glass.
Sharon Purchase of Return on Environment SA - Sharon presented the topic of re-cycling vs re-using and gave a most interesting presentation showing how shipping crates are dismantled and the steel bars, wood and metal sheeting used to build amongst other things, burglar guards, braais and even low-income houses.
