The WPN Five Star Woman Award recognises exceptional women within the commercial property industry of South Africa. These women epitomise the following attributes:

The 2009 Five Star Woman Award was made to Nomzamo Radebe and the 2009 Rising Star Award to Nozipho Maila. Images and profiles of the finalists and winners are below:

Patricia Emmett - KZN
Trish Emmett is currently the 2nd Vice President of the International Union of Architects, the world body representing 1 500 000 architects as well as the Vice President for Region V (Africa). Previously she was a Council Member of the Africa Union of Architects representing the Southern Region of Africa. She now serves on the Africa Union of Architects Council as a co-opted member as the UIA Vice President for Africa. She is the third woman in the history of the South African Institute of Architects to serve as its President. She obtained a B Arch Degree from the University of Natal in 1977 and later completed a Diploma in Datametrics from Unisa, majoring in Quantitative Management.

In 1991 she formed the practice of Emmett : Emmett Architects with Frank Emmett. The practice has won two South African Institute of Architects Conservation Awards; one South African Institute of Architects Merit Award, one KwaZulu-Natal Institute for Architecture Merit Award and fourteen Conservation Awards from the City of Durban.

In 1998 Trish became the first woman to be elected as President of the KwaZulu-Natal Institute for Architecture, a position she held for two consecutive terms of office. She has served as Chair of the Natal Architectural Heritage Committee and has been the Chair of the South African Institute of Architects Heritage Committee from 1999 to 2004. She represented SAIA on ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) for a number of years. She has also served as a Council Member on the South African Council for the Architectural Profession, the registration body for architectural professionals.

Trish was born in Johannesburg and has three children.

Nomzamo Radebe - Gauteng
Nomzamo is a Financial Director at Pareto Limited, having joined the company in May 2006. She has recently been appointed as the company's acting Managing Director. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant with an extensive appreciation of the property industry.

Amongst her numerous responsibilities, she is responsible for the "financial health" and reporting of the company, enterprise wide risk management, stakeholder management and treasury risk management. A critical aspect of her role entails ensuring that the company is financially prepared as it grows its asset base. She is a non executive director at Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa Limited and the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors. She is an "avid lover of the arts, cinema, music and culture".

Christa Bonnet - Gauteng
Christa Bonnet was a Senior Consultant with Absa's Structured Debt Commercial Property Division for the past few years. As a specialist in her field she focused on certain top key clients in the non-listed property sector.
Prior to joining Absa she was in a management position in the Altron Group.
She recently joined the OMIGPI team (Old Mutual Investment Group Property Investments) as a PPP (Public Private Partnership) Business Manager. She has an extensive network in the property industry and is recognised and respected by peers, clients and other role players in the industry. She is known for her energy, passion, authenticity and commitment to persons she meets professionally and personally.
The empowerment of women in the industry is very close to her heart.
For her, "The journey is the reward", with specific reference to her involvement in the Educational Trust, the mentoring of young BEE female bursary students and driving the "Meet the Expert" initiative.
As part of her focus of empowering other people, Christa is in the process of qualifying as a Life Coach through the International Coaching Federation. These skills are used by her to coach people to define their goals and realise their full potential.
She truly believes that by empowering others one empowers oneself and that every person with the proper focus and drive can achieve greatness.

Sanett Uys - Cape

Sanett started her career Rode and Associates where she headed up their Research Survey Department and become the editor of Rode's Retail Report. She then moved to Broll Properties where she started and headed up their Research Department. As a group they produced market leading research projects for their respective clients.

She joined Colliers South Africa five years ago and has since been involved in the various divisions of the company. Research and Marketing however remains her main field of expertise with special focus on the Revitalization of South African Central Business Districts', Shopping Centre redevelopments and strategic letting plans and the tracking and forecasting global and national property trends.

Sanett is also involved in a variety of charity organisations and is currently the chairwomen for the Women's Property Network Western Cape.
